Christmas with the Bell Road Band II

Posted on December 11, 2023December 11, 2023 by andrew

Following on from a successful Christmas concert last year the church band decided it would be fun to go again. This year the band picked some of their favourites from the last year and then added in some new ideas. Songs ranged from classic Christmas carols such as “O come all ye Faithful” and “Hark the Herald” to a moody instrumental version of “the snowman” which merged into “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. The event was to raise money for mind and raised well over £500.

For this event I provided lighting design, sound, visuals and built the set (which is being used for the rest of the Christmas season at church). It was a lot of fun to put together and the evening was a great success.

The set is a series of tissue paper (and lots of PVA) Christmas trees built with bamboo canes. Behind these are some LED Christmas tree lights to backlight them. It provides a unique and different look for the advent and Christmas season.

Lighting was customised for each song and included 4 LED PARs to provide a wash. 2 more provided uplighting on the pillars. Some old halogen floods provided colour higher up to fill the gaps. To provide some movement there were 2 moving heads and a party bar with a couple of derbys . To finish it off a glitterball hung from the balconies provided a bit of Christmas sparkle. A Hazer helped the lights show and really brought the whole setup to life.

The lighting was accompanied by a complementary video, on some songs this was a simple moving background and on others it was a film in its own right.
